Leverage

Leverage allows exposure larger than the margin committed to a trade.
At 20:1 leverage, a simple proportional model requires margin equal to 5 percent of exposure.
For an unchanged position size, higher permitted leverage reduces required margin without reducing profit or loss per price move.
Using that capacity for a larger position magnifies both gains and losses relative to account equity.
